Consumer advocacy in Hume

To assist Hume RICS to develop effective and worthwhile projects for the Hume region, we are constantly searching for people to become effective consumer advocates to work with us to improve health policies and systems.

Consumer advocates can be people living with cancer, who have survived cancer or their families/carers. In fact, anyone touched by cancer who has ideas on how the systems and services could be improved for the benefit of all, can make powerful advocates for change in our health system.

As a consumer advocate people have the opportunity to:

  • become active and effective in the development of services for cancer patients, their families and friends,
  • develop skills and knowledge to effectively represent the interests of consumers in a range of forums,
  • participate at all levels where cancer decisions are made,
  • enhance their understanding of how to influence Government, the health delivery system, clinicians, research institutions, cancer organisations and support providers.

The commitment of cancer advocacy is not demanding, and you may contribute as much or as little as you like.

Other consultation groups

There are other means of consultation utilised by Hume RICS to develop strategies and projects for cancer service improvement. Of particular mention is the Clinical Reference Group; a selection of health professionals committed to cancer service provision in the Hume region.
